Intermediate Hindi Class (Second Year)
The Intermediate Hindi class lasts one academic year and is divided into three terms of eleven weeks each. Class meets one time per week for two hours per meeting.
The overall objective in the first term is to increase conversational fluency so that, by the end of the term the entire class is conducted in Hindi with all students contributing to the conversational flow. Review of grammar, introduction of more complex sentence structures, and independent composition is incorporated into the overall objective of speaking Hindi.
In the second term our overall objective switches to comprehending spoken Hindi at normal speed and we use a Bollywood movie as a basis for writing, speaking and, of course, listening and watching (numerous times!).
In the third term we focus on reading and translating short articles and stories, while continuing to have conversations in Hindi, to review grammar, build vocabulary and write independently.
